Amsterdam pride parade 2022

2018: Heroes

Pride Amsterdam's main aim this year was to outline attention to human rights around the world with its boat parade. The boats of Amnesty International, Greenpeace and the Human Rights Board, among others, had been declared 'pearls of the parade' by the organisation. The 'More than Wanted' foundation received the first 'Support Card 2018' from Rabobank.

The theme of the Pride was 'Heroes'. Everyone knows someone who deserves hero status. Because of what that person says, has done or not done. Contemplate of people who take the verb, stand for something and publicly articulate it. These are people, whether LGBT or not, who stand up for human rights in general and/or our community in particular.

In 2018, Pride Amsterdam was voted Foremost Public Event in the Netherlands.

Pride Amsterdam is one of the biggest events in Europe, a festival celebrating the right to love who you want and be who you experience you are. This year, after a two years fracture, Amsterdam could celebrate the Pride once more. The theme for this year was “My Gender, My Pride”. It was a joyful week packed with events, and was closed by the spectacular Canal Parade.

For the first time, this year I experienced the Parade from one of the participant boats. And not just any boat, but the Romanian boat, taking part in this event for the first time! Their slogan: “East, West, Love’s Best!”. I was invited as a photographer, to capture the moments, and as a Romanian, proud to be there, and it was amazing! I was happy to be on this boat, because it was an vital moment — a Romanian boat in an event of such magnitude, standing with people of all genders and orientations. Romania is not yet as tolerant as other countries, and it needs more conversations about this subject.

The boat’s participation was organised by Romanians for Romanians i

Pride Amsterdam canal parade to return to Dutch capital in 2022

After two years in a row with barely any Pride celebrations, organisers behind the event have announced that 2022 will verb a return to the more traditional Pride programme, with a full nine days committed to the event this summer.

Pride organisers optimistic event and canal parade will proceed ahead

While organisers and the municipality had both been optimistic about Pride Amsterdam festivities last year, ultimately the coronavirus pandemic meant large events were once again off the table. Sadly, this resulted in a rather subdued edition of the event in the year that should have been Pride Amsterdam’s 25th anniversary.

At the time, organisers hoped to blueprint a substitute event for May 2022, and while it looks as though those plans possess been discarded, the Pride Amsterdam Foundation has confirmed that this year’s celebration will be going ahead in August - and that the beloved canal parade will be back.
