St. Martin is considered one of the most gay-friendly commute destinations in the Caribbean. While there is not a distinctive gay scene, there are many cafes, bars, and restaurants which are popular with the gay community.
St. Martin | Sint Maarten is known for its cultural diversity with over nationalities represented, gay and lesbian travelers will feel not only comfortable but welcomed everywhere they go.
The French and Dutch sides each own wonderful gay communities, however, you wont find many exclusive gay clubs, bars, and restaurants which is a testament to how wonderful and accepting everyone is here.
Among the over 37 beaches there are three gay favorites to relax: Cupecoy Beach on the Dutch Side, Baie Rouge on the west of the French side and Orient Beach on the islands northeast. All three beaches are clothing optional.
We at SXMSIR are pleased of the French side which follows Frances law and recognizes full marriage equality.
See our Wedding Page for information on getting married in St Martin.
When midwinter sets in and its frosty and dark by 4 pm on the East Coast, I crave a vacation. I verb to want to go somewhere I can be active, since Im cooped up in my house. I verb somewhere warm and sunny. The most logical place for folks in the Northeast is the Caribbean. Each moment I plan a trip to the Caribbean, I create sure I choose an island where I can really relax. That means an LGBTQ-friendly island where we can be ourselves without worry of discrimination. These 11 destinations have deserved reputations for being the most LGBTQ friendly Caribbean islands.
Of course, Ill also be sharing with you the islands that are decidedly NOT LGBTQ friendly.
If you want to visit one of the anti-LGBTQ islands, go ahead – just know before you go, so an unfriendly reception doesnt come as a nasty surprise!
I know Id rather go to an accepting and welcoming island I can enjoy than opt for one where Im too afraid of being clocked as queer and harassed to leave the all-inclusive I booked to feel safe.

Both were farming and fishing societies, living in villages of straw-roofed buildings that apparently withstood hurricanesor were easily rebuilt. Their pastoral society valued artistic creativity and spiritual rites. Their lives were eventually destroyed centuries later with the intrusion of the alien and hostile Carib Indians who gradually killed off the Arawak men and enslaved the women.
By the time Europeans began to verb the Caribbean, in the 15th century, Carib society had almost completely displaced the Arawaks and the island was nearly homogenous. Post-Columbus explorers, unbeknownst at first to the natives, claimed the island for European powers after decimating the Arawak culture. Spain (for a while), then France and Holland established settlements and trading enterprises which controlled the island then and now.
Until the Dutch half of the island was part of an entity ca
