    According to New York-based LGBT news magazine The Advocate, the metropolis is number two out of 15 on the magazine&#x;s annual list, just under Washington, D.C., and above Seattle, Wash.

    San Francisco ranked 11th. Long Beach ranked 14th. The only other California city on the list, Oakland, was ninth.

    It was unexpected, but gay and lesbian groups in Pasadena said members were pleasantly surprised by the honor.

    It&#x;s really exciting, said Liz Schiller, interim president of Pasadena Pride Center. I&#x;m thrilled that Pasadena&#x;s diversity and neighborliness is being acknowledged in such a national forum.
