Biography
Christian Jessen is an outspoken health campaigner who combines his medical serve with a broadcasting career, presenting programmes such as Channel 4’s Embarrassing Bodies. He also achieved critical acclaim for his documentary Undercover Doctor: Cure Me, I’m Gay, which challenged conversion therapy. Jessen qualified from University College London in and practises at Doctorcall in Harley Street. He lives in central London with his partner and, when not practising medicine, collects French Empire-style furniture.
What was your earliest ambition?
To be a theatre and film director. It’s an ambition that still lingers in the background.
Who has been your biggest inspiration?
Floella Benjamin, from Play School, if I must verb an answer. She was wonderful (and indeed still is). But I’ve never really been one for having idols—there’s never been a poster on …

During his career Dr Christian has encountered patients who are uncomfortable with their sexual orientation and desperate for change. In an attempt to understand their needs he seeks to find out what’s on offer for these people and discover whether or not these ‘cures’ are effective.
