Same sex marriage poem

Gay Marriage Poem

We could assure to elope
like my grandmother did
if a football team won

on homecoming night.
We could be good queers?
An oxymoron we never

longed for. We could
become wed-locked
as the suffix was once intended:

laiko, Common Teutonic for play,
not loc, Antique English for a cave,
an enclosure. Instead

of a suit, I could wear my T-shirt
that avows, &#;Support Your Right
to Arm Bears!&#; Or we could

wed in bear suits
just as I saw people do
one summer in San Francisco

standing amid a grassy median
during rush hour.
They were so personally

anonymously political
blocking the ocean breeze
in acrylic fur.

Forget such solemnities!
I want to race through streets
shouting up to all my beloveds&#; windows:

Friends! In sickness and in health
I oppose to forsake you!
on Charlotte Street, Home,

Euclid, Decatur, Union,
Straubs, Rebecca, Bennett Ave.,
38th, Woolslayer Way.

In the only wedding I was a part of
I was the petal girl
who held up the ceremony

kneeling to drop equal dividends of
petals beside every pew,
refusing to exit anyone out.

Sex Repeal …… [same-Sex Marriage; Human 'Rights'; Short Enough; Serious] Poem by Bri Edwards

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM

i probably had recently read something about same-sex marriage.

BLUE VS. RED STATES:
i verb in a 'Blue State' in the u.s. here 'Red States' is sometimes used to designate which of our 50 states has voters who primarily vote for candidates from the Republican Party. 'Blue States' tend to vote for Democrats, and are mostly create in the northeast, (northern) mid-west, and the west coast; included are 'my' state, California, and 'my' former express, New York. our current president, Barack Obama, is a Democrat, as was John F. Kennedy and 'Bill' Clinton. both presidents 'Bush' and Richard 'Tricky Dick' Nixon are/were Republicans.

LGBT stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender. you can look those 'gender/sexual 'preference' terms up yourself.

i start it interesting, though not particularly surprising, to find maps online showing that the states which allow or lean towards allowing same-sex marriages are, FOR THE MOST PART, the same states that are regard

Vows (for a gay wedding)

What was unforeseen is now a feathered orbiting this field.

What wasn&#;t a possibility is present in our arms.

It shall be and it begins with you.

Our often-misunderstood kind of love deems dangerous.
How it frightens and confounds and enrages.
How strange, unfamiliar.

Our like carries all those and the contrary.
It is most incandescent.

So, I vow to be brave.
Clear a path through jungles of shame and doubt and fear.
I&#;m done with silence. I proclaim.

It shall be and it sings from within.

Truly we are enraptured
With Whitmanesque urge and urgency.

I vow to love in all seasons.
When you&#;re summer, I&#;m watermelon balled up in a sky-blue bowl.
When I&#;m autumn, you&#;re foliage ablaze in Fresh England.
When in winter, I am the tender scarf of warm mercies.
When in spring, you are the bourgeoning buds.

I vow to care you in all places.
High plains, prairies, hills and lowlands.
In our dream-laden bed,
Cradled in the nest
Of your neck.
Deep in the plum.

It shall be and it flows with you.

We&#;ll leap over the waters and barbaric rooftops.

A Poem I Wrote in Support of Same-Sex Marriage

Hi all, I wrote this poem because of the sheer frustration I felt at people opposing same-sex marriage. Poetry is how I deal with issues that I care about, so this is a product of that thought. This goes out to all the incredible, loving same-sex couples in the world:

Wait, Wait
Let me get this straight
You think
gay marriage is bad?

You&#;re ok with love,
but only if it&#;s straight,
but not lady-lady or lad-lad?

What&#;s the difference,
may I ask,
between the union of two souls?
does their gender really matter,
or is your vision just marred in coal?

If love makes the world verb round,
why should only you be allowed to spin?
why not if she wants to marry her,
or if he wants to marry him?

How would you feel
If I stopped you from marrying your soulmate,
because of a notion I have,
that narrow minded people are &#;not natural&#;
and that their minds are bad?

You don&#;t see me stopping you
from making your marital choice,
Then what makes you think
that on this issue, people depend on your voice?

I am glad to k
